Myofascial Cupping

Cupping is a powerful healing technique and complementary modality that has been used medicinally for 1000’s of years. Myofascial Cupping provides faster results with less pain. Five minutes of cupping is the equivalent of 30 minutes of a deep tissue massage. Adding cupping to your massage can increase the amount of therapeutic work that can be done in one session. Cupping utilizes negative pressure from the suction of the silicone cup. This increases blood flow, allowing the body to dispose of toxins, restore lymphatic circulation, and help to remove edema.

Benefits:

  • Relaxing - eliminates the fight or flight response and creates a relaxed feeling

  • Pain Reduction - releases fascia which can cause restrictions on the surrounding muscles.

  • Therapeutic Release - allows decompression and utilizes negatived pressure which lifts and releases muscle adhesions

  • Faster Recovery Time - muscles and fascia recover more quickly after working out and strenuous activity because cupping brings new blood and nutrients to the tissues.

  • Reduce Stretch marks and scars - the increased circulation to areas of scarring may help to heal and realign the fibers.

Cupping marks:

After a cupping treatment, you may have marks on the areas of your body that have been worked. These marks are not bruises as there is no compression used in a cupping session. The marks which range in color from light pink (which disappears within a few hours) to a deep purple (usually taking 3-5 days to diminish) are a result of toxin removal and the new blood flow to the area. Many times areas of trauma in the body will accumulate stagnant lymph, scar tissue, and other toxins. Cupping can help to release this which in turn will release any physical restrictions in range of motion. As these fluids and toxins come to the surface from deeper structures, skin discoloration appears. It sometimes takes 5-10 targeted sessions to completely heal an area of injury or trauma.

After Treatment Care

Even if you don’t have any visible cupping marks after a cupping treatment the pores of the areas cupped will be open. It is possible that your client’s skin will also be quite sensitive. This is why it is recommended to avoid hot/cold, exercise, and showering immediately after a treatment. Due to the release of toxins, some clients may experience nausea, sweating, dizziness, or mild soreness in the areas where cupping was performed.
